I’ve been back in the classroom since October. Not just the virtual classroom, as I have been since 2013 or so, but an actual middle school classroom. I’m so happy to be back!

The funniest thing is, as a teacher with a hyphenated last name, I tell my students they can call me The Whole thing, the first half, the last half, or just “Mrs. S.” Some students do call me by just the first half, and it makes me a little sentimental.

I have the news articles from the Montreal Gazette from when my grandmother, of that same last name, won awards for teaching. Although she’s be gone since I was a first grader, I still remember Granny teaching me to write my letters on a family vacation. I also remember making her laugh by turning every lower case “m” into a bum, but that’s another story. 🙂

Coming from both sides, there are teachers in each generation. So, I guess you could say teaching is the family business. I like to think of it as being a professional nerd. Since I feel happiest in a classroom, it’s like coming home again.

Happy Friday, and blessings to you all.
