Current Events #FridayPhilosophy

I’m not writing about global or political current events. In fact, the dire tones of the daily American news feeds have me committed to limiting my intake.

Instead, I am selecting some darker quotes today, as we head to the funeral of one of our friends. We have been in a strange and difficult season here, so I’ll find some words from other minds and other pens…keyboards.

“Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more.” – Virginia Woolf

“It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.” – Lemony Snicket

“Unbeing dead isn’t being alive.” – E. E. Cummings

“Though lovers be lost, love shall not.” – Dylan Thomas

“Grief is itself a medicine.” – William Cowper

Blessings to you all.
