You had to know this was coming. Ages ago, I did a post on Patriarchy. It only makes sense that there be a corresponding post, especially with all of the #nastywoman trends going on this week.
“The opposite of patriarchy is not matriarchy but fraternity, yet I think it’s women who are going to have to break this spiral of power and find the trick of cooperation.” ~ Germaine Greer
“Society values cooperation over independence, obedience over individuality, and niceness above all else.” ~ Sue Grafton
“A people is not defeated until the hearts of its women are on the ground.” ~ Cheyenne proverb
“I believe that the souls of women flatten and anchor themselves in times of adversity, lay in for the stay. I’ve heard that when elephants are attacked they often run, not away, but towards each other. Perhaps it is because they are a matriarchal society.” ~ Elizabeth Berg
“I feel truth, beauty, love, grief, anger, intimacy & alive in my body… Women in the global south live in their bodies much more than we in the global north. Not as distracted by patriarchy’s controlling images – They know power is in their bodies. I am deeply grateful for the women who showed me the way home.” ~ Jodie Evans
“The first problem for all of us, men and women, is not to learn, but to unlearn.” ~ Gloria Steinem
Searching for quotes on matriarchy leads to a surprisingly large number of websites arguing that there is no such thing. Strangely, the ones I stumbled upon didn’t have women authors. Hmmmm. 😉
Blessings to you all. I’ll be racing up a mountain at dawn, so fast sleep awaits.
