I am every kind of Celt. Scots, Welsh, Irish. I probably bleed green. Although I refer to my children as Maddie and Moses on here, they have strong, traditional Irish names. I drew the line at spelling them in Gaelic, though. I had enough difficulty myself with people mispronouncing Caroline my entire life. I wasn’t about to make it trickier for them.
So, in honour of the day, I thought I’d share some quotes and proverbs from the Irish side of life. 🙂
I’m starting with a perennial favourite of mine:
“May those who love us love us. And those that don’t love us, may God turn their hearts. And if he doesn’t turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, so that we’ll know them by their limping.”
“It’s not that the Irish are cynical. It’s rather that they have a wonderful lack of respect for everything and everybody.” ~ Brendan Behan
“All the world’s a stage, and most of us are desperately unrehearsed.” ~ Sean O’Casey
“You will never plough a field by turning it over in your mind.” ~ Irish Proverb
“I can resist everything but temptation.” ~ Oscar Wilde
Happy St. Pat’s and blessings to you all!
I love Gaelic names! With the Scotsman I want either strong Scot / Gaelic names or French names. But people here can never pronounce my French name so it makes me reconsider sometimes
Lovely! Happy St.Patrick’s Day to you too! 🍀
Thank you, Dina! I hope it’s a festive one for you. 🙂
