Friday Philosophy…Differences

As the French say, “Vive la difference!” Our differences are what draw us closer to one another. We inhabit this world with a multitude of people with ideas and opinions different from our own. Our minds work differently. Just look at the many learning styles, if you doubt it: auditory, visual, kinesthetic.

In the face of everything the international community has experienced in this past week alone, I think it’s becoming all too easy to fear the “other,” to fear those aspects of faith that seem to make us different from each other. Not every difference equates an individual with terrorism, not every nationally “different” individual is a threat to our lives.

So, some thoughts on differences for our Friday Philosophy.

“Strength lies in differences, not in similarities.” ~ Stephen Covey

“It is not our differences that divide us. It is our inability to recognize, accept, and celebrate those differences.” ~ Audre Lorde

“I think… if it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads, then there are as many
kinds of love as there are hearts.” ~ Leo Tolstoy

And, for fun:

“In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” ~ Coco Chanel

Blessings to you all. Never give up.
