Friday Philosophy…Deception

“Reality is easy. It’s deception that’s the hard work.” ~ Lauryn Hill

Turn on the television any old day you choose, and you’ll see mass deception at work. Journalism has become so slanted that it’s more opinion than fact, it seems. We have fake news and manipulative politicians (okay, those last two words might be redundant), but – and it’s a big one – we deceive ourselves most of all.

Why do we lie to ourselves? Some would argue that it’s a way we can protect ourselves. In the long run, deceiving yourself will hurt you more. So, as they say, let the truth set you free. Here are some further thoughts on deception, courtesy of bigger names than my own. ๐Ÿ™‚

“Nothing is so boring as having to keep up a deception.” ~ E.V. Lucas

โ€œJust because something isn’t a lie does not mean that it isn’t deceptive. A liar knows that he is a liar, but one who speaks mere portions of truth in order to deceive is a craftsman of destruction.โ€ ~ Criss Jami

“Man is not what he thinks he is, he is what he hides.” ~ Andre Malraux

“The devil’s finest trick is to persuade you that he does not exist.” ~ Charles Baudelaire

“Only one deception is possible in the infinite sense: self-deception.” ~ Soren Kierkegaard

“We are never so easily deceived as when we imagine we are deceiving others.” Francois de la Rochefoucauld

Speak your truth, even if only to yourself. <3

Blessings to you all.
