The freedom of disguise
Carries revelry
Upon the air
And voices raised
In song
Feet quick stepping
In a dance
Along crowded sidewalks
We become
Someone other
Than who we are
Casting aside
The everyday
In favor of play acting
Forgetting the root
The fear
That drove us to disguise
And the darkness
That waits
To pounce
Upon the unsuspecting
We smile
We laugh
And the night
Is harmless
Safely
Turning us back
To our normal selves ~ Caroline A. Slee
