Distant Light

The sky sings to us
in thunder and banshee winds
a terrifying opera
set to flood and fury
the day grows dark
an Oz green hovering
in a strange twilight
we move ever hopeful
onward to that distant light
seeking solace and shelter
to protect us
from the rocketing sky
our primitive minds
driven to survival
taking cover
from the destruction to come – Caroline A. Slee
