The path ahead is invisible
blocked by obstacles
and strewn with leaves
the sun has vanished
beyond an emerald glow
as we must make our way forward

We are bold at the start
nearly tireless
but the push of energy and optimism
dwindles to fits and starts
after the non-stop slap
of branches to the face

Until we pause
until we sharpen our blades
until our years of fighting
bloom into unstoppable strength
