No matter how many times
you extend your hand
seeking that contact
that momentary warmth
you never
touch anything
none of us do
none of us can
our skin wants the shock
of touch
while our molecules
hold fast
a barrier preventing touch
only those molecules
experience all of the world
the weather and surfaces
the softness and the brittle pieces
while we
live in self-deceit
believing ourselves
to be fully immersed
in the one sense
we will never know ~ Caroline A. Slee
