Between Two Worlds

We all climb, ever upward
by different paths, a different stair
though sometimes we journey together
we are set apart
stuck between two worlds
the safety of what we have always known
and the risk of unknown freedoms
we all climb, ever upward
some guided by love
while others make the climb
only to throw others down to a lower step
we ascend
between two worlds:
the wisdom of the right choice
and the foolishness of the familiar
until the burdens that come
with the safe and the known
become too great for our hearts
and our shoulders
