It All Looks Very Different Everyday…#MondayBlogs

Perspective.

Today, my teenager came home from school and told me, “Did you know the man who wrote the saddest song ever died this weekend?”

I knew she meant David Bowie, but trying to guess what anyone else might consider to be the “saddest song ever” is a bit beyond me.

“Which David Bowie song do you mean?”

“I don’t know what it’s called, but the ‘ground control to Major Tom’ one.”

That’s a good alternate title for Space Oddity, I guess. My son only knows David Bowie in the context of Shrek, not that he hasn’t heard other songs. I was just pushing through the end of Labyrinth recently to gear myself up into the New Year and chasing down my fears until they fear me.

Music is a part of culture that transcends every single item that leaves us all destroyed and tangled up in miscommunication. No matter who you are, no matter what god you follow – or not – music makes you feel.

I won’t try to quantify what it makes you feel, because that is as personal and unique as a fingerprint: a soulprint, of a kind.

Dreamers and artists are often overlooked, until their loss makes itself so keenly felt that we catch ourselves taking a breath and seeing the world differently. In some cases, the loss is instantly known.

I hope the stars look very different today.

And tomorrow, they will be different again.

Blessings to you all ~ wishing you peace and quiet rest. And music to calm the spirit.
