The Stranger

The man older
than his body yet knew
life depending
on the cigarette in his lips
his walk a metronome
of anxiety
The woman
with unabashed tears
pride in the tilt
of her defiant chin
grace within each step
Passing characters through
moving windows
Strangers we once knew
in a journey
whose images fade
A white flash
before a blank wall
until only the stranger remains
in an emptied mirror
