As dawn begins to rise
the streets are lively
coyotes and ravens
the once-in-a-while bobcat
roaming as we sleep
reclaiming their own world
and a protest breaks out
raucous complaints
against nature
trying to “encroach”
for some would believe
that the world was created
with pretty pavement
and cookie-cutter homes
never imagining
the wilderness we destroyed
never seeing ourselves
as the invaders – Caroline A. Slee
