In the longer growing seasons
in an arid world
the days without shadow
are too few
winter ends in springtime temperatures
surrounded by snowy ridges
as bees set themselves
to their tasks with new blooms
and the garden brings us food
weeks of winter
gone in a flash
celebrated in their sudden cold
as we ready ourselves
for the fiery heat
hiding right around the corner
in only weeks – Caroline A. Slee
