A Sense of Place

Once upon
someone else’s time
a home sat still
at lakeside
quiet and empty
with memories past
still hovering
ghostlike

every approach
brought a lift
to the heart
a sense of place
a familiar
comfort
almost a homecoming
to a home
not my own

cool mornings
and the lake
sending steam
into the dawn
ripples cast out
from swimmers
greeting the day

As memories travel
among wildflowers
and fresh water
and the silence
of trees ~ Caroline A. Slee
