I am a homebody

With a wanderer’s soul

Fixed in place

As my mind roams

The time is later

Than it ever ought to be

As I pass along

Paths set for adventures

The world sets a pace

A structure

An identity

Though none of it

Matches the rhythms

I can hear

And a million other voices

Crescendo

Into distractions

While the way forward

Is clear

I am content

To sit by the fire

Tucked away at home

As the days pass

While my eyes see

New worlds

Dancing in the flames

And other times merge

Into our own

I am a homebody

With a wanderer’s soul

Remaining in this place

My heart has called home – Caroline A. Slee
