Must write.
Must. Write.
It’s what we all do, right? (Didn’t mean to go there on the write/right spectrum.)
Today, my daughter turned 13. Tomorrow, my son turns 9. My brain has turned to absolute mush, and my belly is distended from the excess of birthday food.
It’s after 9:00 p.m., and this is my first opportunity to sit down to work. I have not reached my daily 2,000 word goal. I haven’t even started. Now, I find the sugar crash working strongly against me.
So, what motivates us when we don’t have the will to write? It’s not a usual experience for me, but right now I only have the will to hold my stomach and whimper softly.
Motivation.
Basic motivation? Writers write.
“Half my life is an act of revision.” ~ John Irving
“Get it down. Take chances. It may be bad, but it’s the only way you can do anything good.” ~ William Faulkner
2,000 word goal, here I come. Faulkner is clearly telling me to do it. It may be less than stellar right now, and my character may be doing battle with an overly large birthday cake instead of supernatural forces. It’s okay. I’ll let it go on the page and see where things end up. 🙂
Happy Monday, and blessings to you all!
