Friday Philosophy…Hatred

You’ve been hearing a lot about hatred lately, haven’t you? It’s been gussied up and paraded about as a “solution” to the current problems we are facing. It’s an oversimplification, though, in my opinion. Or, to rephrase, it is intellectually and morally lazy to demonize an entire people based upon the actions of a few.

A Christian who lives a life filled with hatred is NOT a Christian. In fact, hatred is the polar opposite of love – which is the fundamental tenet of the life and lessons of Jesus Christ. A jihadi is not the same as a Muslim.

Oftentimes, it is simpler to see things as either/or. The problem there is that each human being – filled with uniqueness and having lived different histories and experiences – is not a black and white caricature of good OR evil. We all have both within us. Now is not the time to feed the monster within.

Some thoughts from bigger minds when it comes to hatred:

“Hate, it has caused a lot of problems in the world, but has not solved one yet.” ~ Maya Angelou

“Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.” ~ Gautama Buddha

“Anyone can hate. It costs to love.” ~ John Williamson

Blessings to you all. Never, especially at this moment, give up!
