I want to live
Where I see the sky
Duplicated
On water’s surface
I want to walk
Where my toes
Can sink
Into cool shallows
Where the dawn
Comes with rising steam
And the silence
Of a world shrouded
I want to rest
Where stillness
Is disrupted
By a bird’s sudden dive
And the evasion of a fish
Beyond my eyes
But staring up
At that same surface
I want to return
To sights I long to see
And let my body rest
Against the soft carpet
Of earth and green
In dappled light cast
By trees that began
Before my ancestors
Ever walked in their shade ~ Caroline A. Slee
