I ran
beneath the bright moon
as the sun rose
Rippled clouds above
carried grays
and wishes for rain
As my blood
fueled my legs
forward, forward
It was every run
and a first, all its own
It was all the nights in college
running darkened streets
catching cobwebs on my hair
avoiding possums
My twenties
finding a rhythm and distance
pushing first a stroller
then a double
I lost the movement
mid-thirties
my body failed itself
and illness won the day
But I re-emerged
winning the war
finding new sidewalks
new views
and my own fresh eyes
Into this present
Each day
every step is changed
the familiar brand-new once more
As I find myself
again and again
