My Maddie had her last dance of the school year last night. I have not been ready for these years. I may not ever be ready for these years, to be honest. However, time marches on despite my readiness or lack thereof. 🙂
Lara and I have been pondering life, as always. Since the momentous changes life has been throwing our way over these past two years (growing ever faster in recent months), we can’t help but look at responsibility as a theme. Our responsibility to our family here, a more universal responsibility that we all have to each other as human beings on this journey called life. You know – just lighthearted thinking. 🙂 So, our Friday philosophy follows these thoughts.
“Beauty awakens the soul to act.” ~ Dante Alighieri
“Man is condemned to be free; because once thrown into the world, he is responsible for everything he does. It is up to you to give a meaning.” ~ Jean-Paul Sartre
“Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual you have an obligation to be one.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
“There are plenty of recommendations on how to get out of trouble cheaply and fast. Most of them come down to this: Deny your responsibility.” ~ Lyndon B. Johnson
At what point are we responsible for the outcomes of our community? Our friends and neighbors? I have never believed that it is solely the parents and the teachers who are responsible for our children – but the age old “village” from the African proverb who holds varying degrees of responsibility in shaping the future.
A soapbox, indeed. Blessings to you all, and love, and the pursuit of your dreams…xoxo
