It’s been said that law enforcement officers do not like to rely on “eye witness” testimony when pursuing a suspect. Eye witnesses are inherently unreliable. While one witness in the crowd may see one thing, the person right next to that witness will have a different experience. Why is that? Reality is what it is, isn’t it?
Reality is colored by the lenses we wear. The optimist will see the best in others, viewing life through the proverbial rose-colored glasses. What you see will differ vastly from what I see. One woman may look at a spot on her skin and think it’s an age spot, while the cancer survivor may see the exact same spot and jump straight to the conclusion of melanoma. Perception.
Life is a kaleidoscope. When you tilt the lens, the entire picture shifts and tumbles into a new arrangement.
So, write your truth. Just remember, you truth will differ from the truth of those who know you. Your truth is your own, and you don’t write it to persuade: you write it because it is.
“Freedom is what you do with what’s been done to you.” ~ Sartre
This post really strikes a chord with me, thanks for sharing! Congrats on your 1st #MondayBlogs.
Thank you so much! It’s one of the scariest and hardest things to do, in my opinion – writing unvarnished truth and then setting it free. 🙂
