Tuesday Thoughts…Matriarchy…

When I was in University, I heard some of my first conversations on how oppressed women are within our patriarchal society. Before you ask, yes, I was THAT sheltered. My world until that time could be found within the pages of a book. I spent most of my childhood living between book covers, and I was happy there.

In a recent conversation with a friend, the topic of “modern” religion as opposed to earlier “pagan” or “earth” religions came up. In so many of the Earth religions, the Mother, the Goddess, was sort of the supreme being. (I’m trying to use general, inoffensive terms here.) As time progressed, we had the advent of Catholicism and then Protestantism, which both reversed the order: the Father, God, was the supreme being. Depending on who you listen to – sin entered the world through a woman, or salvation entered the world through a woman. It seems that both points are rarely focused upon at once.

What is a matriarchy?

The short definition is “a social order in which women have power.”

If you wonder where I’m going with this, I’m not. I’m pondering things based upon how my writing went today. I’ve been working on fleshing out a couple of the male characters in my sequel, and wondering at the matriarchal structure I created.

Some other people’s thoughts on matriarchy… (Especially since I am rambling, I’ll take pity on you. Haha.)

“Maybe a matriarchy in human society would bring an everlasting PEACE in the world…Women are carried by LOVE, they have no religion nor ethnicity.” ~ Shkelqim Zilbeari

“You were born with wings. Why prefer to crawl through life?” ~ Rumi

“Poetry began in the matriarchal age, and derives its magic from the moon, not from the sun.” ~ Robert Graves

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

Blessings to you all…
