Friday Philosophy… On love and pain

I’ve been thinking a lot about seasons lately. It isn’t only because I live in a desert, and I’m recovering from the brutally hot (and oddly humid) summer we just endured. I’ve been listening to my friends’ love stories, observing love stories through the unusual lens of social media, and just people watching in general. 🙂 It keeps hitting me just how often love and pain seem to be inexorable connected for so many people. Of course, no one can hurt you like your loved ones, since they’ve already made it through every barrier you have.

It reminds me just how fortunate I am. Lara and I manage to have different philosophies and ideologies, the “agree to disagree” types of issues – but we don’t hurt each other with those points. We just talk, endlessly. We chatter away so much at each other, it’s a wonder there are any words left to spare at the end of a day. I like it!

So, based on observations and story-telling of late, here are some quotes about love…and how raw it can leave us at times.

“Sometimes… Reason and Love are met with a violent ignorance that even what’s right gets lost. Our heart bleeds, but when does the blood shed end and the healing begin?” ~ Solange Nicole

“Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache, carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.” ~ Napolean Hill

“Let no one who loves be unhappy…even love unreturned has its rainbows.” ~ James Matthew Barrie

“In the arithmetic of love, one plus one equals everything, and two minus one equals nothing.” ~ Mignon McLaughlin

“Sadness flies on the wings of the morning and out of the heart of darkness comes the light.” ~ Jean Giradoux

Nothing seems capable of hurting us quite like love. Yet nothing can comfort or thrill us like love can, either. Sending you all wishes for comfort and love today, and everyday.

Blessings to you all!
