Tuesday Thoughts…The Challenge

We’ve had some ups and downs around here lately: nothing major, just growing pains of a sort.

My daughter is now a teenager. If I allowed her to do so, she would remain in her room twenty four hours each day. Thankfully, she wants to read all day – so that’s a good thing. But, this summer I wanted us to engage with each other more, and “Maddie” surprised me last week by saying she wants to get up at 5:00 a.m. and go running with me.

Every day.

We are 7 days into our daily running challenge. Before any of you get crazy about overuse injuries, I’m throwing walking days, and a “do nothing” day into the mix. She’s frustrated, but I keep explaining rest and recovery as keys to fitness.

So far, she’s able to make it through a 5k without stopping now.

This is good news, because the two of us are doing a mini-triathlon this fall.

Between running and Krav Maga this summer, I’m seeing more of my angst-y daughter. Moses is all recovered from surgery, so he’s going to start the daily run this week.

Still in shock that any teenager volunteered to get up at 5:00 a.m. every day. We’re on the road to our triathlon. (VERY mini). Updates and photos to come!

Blessings to you all…
