Writers Write! Except When They Don’t…#MondayBlogs

The family and I went on a sort of writer’s retreat this weekend. Well, okay, we beat a hasty retreat from 114 degree weather and high humidity and headed for the mountains.

I was spinning my wheels before we left, writing-wise. My little guy, Moses, has a minor surgery tomorrow and it’s been weighing on my mind.

So, unexpected benefit: a short getaway in an environment that was rich with sights and sounds and smells that were incredibly inspiring. Creativity flows once again! We all need to recharge our batteries once in a while. 🙂

I thought I would share some of the sights we took in:

For a funny story, Lara and I went for a short stroll after we had tucked the kiddos in for the night. We were within sight of our cabin the entire time, but the driveway was designed by someone who was training for Everest. All at once, howls ripped through the air all around us and we realized that we were standing in the midst of what must have been coyotes’ dens like a couple of morons. With a flashlight. As if that would help. So, with great dignity, we took off running for the house as fast as we could.
Did I mention it was straight uphill?! We were moving as fast as we could and pretty much standing still. Oh, my goodness! Of course, coyotes aren’t interested in grown ups, so we are fine and still laughing at ourselves.

Moral of the #MondayBlogs? Take a breather. Recharge your batteries. Experience the world around you in all its intensity. Then get back to your writing. It will fire you up all over again.

Happy Monday, and blessings to you all…
